Molyvos

Molyvos, with the shell of a fine old castle crowning the hill above the tiny fishing harbour. Houses of local stone with red tiled roofs and narrow cobbled streets winding there way up the steep hillside.The castle is floodlit at night and the twinkling lights of the village reflect in the inky black waters, a real fairytale setting.

Returning from a trip to Sigri we turned left off the main highway and down through the narrow streets of Skalochori. The map showed a minor road route from here back to Petra. As we passed through the village the road became a track and after about 3km traveling slowly with the windows down we suddenly heard an incredible sound. From a pond just to the left of the track we were hearing a loud echoing chorus of toads.As we alighted and crept nearer we discovered a true wild life haven...
